This study presents a systematic review of the literature on Absorptive Capacity (AC) applied to the context of the territory. Based on a literature review, with the support of bibliometric analysis, we conducted a survey of the published scientific production on the topic. We identified a final sample of 22 scientific articles that deal with the theme, which were categorized and analyzed, according to the methodology employed. Bibliometric analysis made it possible to describe the state of the art of the CA and territory approach, exploring the quantitative evolution of the selected studies. Although the CA concept is widely discussed in the context of organizational learning, the term originated in the macroeconomic literature, being initially applied to the context of economic development. The theme is still a complex and diffuse field, which requires further investigation, with a view to evolution and consolidation in the literature. We conclude that the CA and territory theme is still underdeveloped, dispersed in time and space, which is configured as a wide open field for new research, contributing to the generation of more in-depth knowledge about the theme. The integrated reading of the identified articles and the content analysis, made it possible to explore the different research themes. These analyzes enabled the identification of possible gaps and paths for future research, with suggested propositions, which may be significant for the advancement of the literature.
