O RIO DE MARESIAS - UMA RESPOSTA SUSTENTÁVEL PARA A SOCIEDADE

Abstract

This research is an analysis of the Maresias River’s pollution, with the goals of clarifying the actual situation, listing the locals’ opinions and offering propositions to solve its problems. To perform the analysis, the following steps were taken: the local populace, of varied social conditions, were interviewed. A biomonitoring of the Maresias River was performed, where the solid waste collected over five visits was cataloged, forming a database for the application of the Pareto tool. A chemical analysis of the water was performed using samples collected from various points of the river and news analysis related to the theme. Therefore, the research is qualitative, quantitative and from bibliographic sources. From the biomonitoring and analysis of the samples, it is concluded that the river is still in acceptable conditions despite the lack of environmental education reflected in the solid waste found, sewage improperly disposed and the accident that happened in the Canto do Moreira neighborhood. The concern of the population is demonstrated through the interviews, so prevention actions such as environmental education, sewage treatment and quick action in case of accidents are fundamental for the river to stay alive.
