STUDY OF CORN PRODUCTION IN BRAZIL

Agribusiness is one of the main activities to the Brazilian economy and it has vital importance for the trade balance. Strictly speaking, corn is one of the most important product in Brazil's agriculture where it is the second most cultivated and exported grain, losing only to soybeans. In addition, the cereal is the main component to produce animal feedstuff, focused on one of the main segments of Brazil's foreign trade, the animal meat production chain. Therefore, the objective of this article is to investigate the national production of corn, as well as the main producing regions and states, productivity and planting areas. For that, data were collected from the National Supply Company (CONAB) and the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). The results show the two main producing regions, South and Center-West, and that the second crop, called safrinha, is responsible for increasing national grain production, especially the state of Mato Grosso, which is the largest producer of the last crops.
